Rachmawati: Koreans Have the Right to Live Side by Side in Peace

APRCPRK - The international community is invited to continue to provide support for the peaceful reunification process on the Korean Peninsula. Meanwhile, external parties who are trying to maintain dominance in the region are asked to stop provocations.

This message was conveyed by Bung Karno's daughter, Rachmawati Soekarnoputri, while speaking at the Asia-Pacific Committee Conference for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea (APRCPRK) which was held virtually, Monday (31/5).

Rachma who is the founder of the Indonesian-Korean Friendship Association (PPIK) recalled the results of the Asian-African Conference (KAA) in Bandung in 1955 which, among other things, emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence.

"We believe and agree that unity among the Korean people is a problem that can actually be solved independently by the Korean nation itself," said Rachma, who is one of the heads of the organization which was founded on April 12, 2012.

As a friend, he continued, APRCPRK's obligation is to ensure that the Korean nation has the right to determine peace and unity without interference and hostility from other countries that still want to maintain dominance in the region.

"It is our obligation to remind other parties who always shout about peace on the Korean Peninsula but are actually trying to prolong the conflict situation," said the former member of the Indonesian Presidential Advisory Council.

Rachma said the Democratic People's Republic of Korea or North Korea has long sought to apply the principle of peaceful coexistence while continuing to carry out talks and various efforts towards peaceful reunification.

"However, there are parties who are dissatisfied with peace and reunification on the Korean Peninsula which until now continue to disturb and undermine the nuances of peace that we have witnessed in recent years," said Rachmawati.

In the meeting chaired by one of the APRCPRK Chairs, Robert Woods, PPIK Secretary General Teguh Santosa was appointed as Director of the APRCPRK Public Information Bureau.

The APRCPRK Public Information Bureau was also strengthened by the Chief Editor of "Gorka Express" Nepal, Rajan Karki; Australia-Korea Friendship Union representative in Melbourne, Christian Popovic; and Chair of the New Zealand-Korea Friendship Association, Tim Beal.
