The 80th Anniversary of the Founding of the General Federation of Korean Trade Unions (GFKTU)

Dear Excellency,
As we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Founding of the General Federation of Korean Trade Unions (GFKTU) founded on the 30th November 1945 under the leadership of President Kim IL Sung we extend to you, the GKFTU, its members and the Korean people best wishes and solidarity greetings. Since its formation the GFKTU has played an essential and central role in the ideological, political and collective education of the Korean working class and the scientific and technical development of its economy.
Following the liberation of Korea from the Japanese Militarist on the 15th August 1945 the scorched earth policy of the Japanese invaders left Korea in ruins the economy and infrastructure had to be rebuilt from the bottom up. President Kim IL Sung realized that if Korea was to transform from a backward semi-feudal nation to the modern era, a new political, ideological, economic and social system was required to implement the necessary changes required for a modern and technical advance Korea.
To achieve this momentous task the Korean working class had to be organized into a collective and educated to support and struggle for the principles of socialism and the Workers Party of Korea. To successfully implement this strategy President Kim IL Sung understood that the Korean Workers needed a class based mass organization that would serve their interest while at the same time play a leading role in the development and modernization of the economy and for this purpose the General Federation of Korean Trade Unions was formed on the 30th November 1945.
Under the leadership of the President Kim IL Sung and the WPK the political economic landscape was reshaped with the nationalization of major industries, mines and banks. Land was redistributed to the peasants who were subsequently organized into farm cooperatives.
At the same time the GFKTU was tasked with the instrumental role of educating the workers to take a leading revolutionary role in promoting the principles of socialism and to organize society with a collective perspective. In addition to these fundamental principles and concepts the GFKTU from an ideological and political perspective was to become the center of recruitment for perspective members of the Workers Party of Korea. "A school for Communism."
Since its founding the GFKTU under the leadership of the Workers Party of Korea has consistently upheld its charter and accounted for its activities both at a national and international level. During the period of the "Fatherland Liberation War" and the "Arduous March" the GFKTU was at the forefront of uniting the workers and the Korea people to victory after victory and to-day as part of their anti-imperialist policies and in support of a multi-polar world the GFKTU is instrumental in promoting the principles of class struggle through their activities of the World Federation of Trade Unions.
