Minutes of Enlarged Zoom Meeting APRCFSKP

February 28th 2024
Hosted by Jakarta

The Director of the Secretariat of APRCFSKP Mr Raymond Ferguson opened the meeting @15.15 Jakarta time and warmly welcomed all participants and outlined the purpose of the meeting following changing circumstances impacting upon the Korean peninsula and the Korean people.

For this purpose he explained that due to these changing circumstances there was a need to change the name of the Asia Pacific Regional Committee for Peaceful Reunification of Korea (APRCPRK) to the new name of Asia Pacific Regional Committee Friendship and Solidarity with the Korean People (APRCFSKP).

He expressed his appreciation for the wide support from the Asia Pacific Region and other parts of the world for the convening of the meeting and lending support to the decisions of the DPRK at its recent major meetings. Over a period of almost 80years the DPRK and the Korean people have genuinely adopted a policy of Reunification/Reconciliation and have advocated numerous proposals to advance this principle.

However due to the continual policies of deceit and hostilities by both the South Korea Government and US Imperialism the long standing and principled policy of Reconciliation/Reunification is no longer sustainable but the need to continue to advocate solidarity with the Korean people and peace on the Korean peninsula is even more demanding as part of our activities. Peace can only be won and consolidated by the strength of the Korean and world progressive and peace loving forces.

With his opening remarks the Director advised the meeting of the propose agenda:

1. On the adoption of the Constitution of the Asia Pacific Regional Committee for Friendship and Solidarity with the Korean People.

2. On the organisational Structure and Composition of APRCFSKP.
3. On the approval of the official Logo and Orientation of APRCFSKPS Future Activities.

4. On the adoption of APRCFSKP Action Plan.

The adoption of the agenda was confirmed by unanimous acclamation.

In support of the agenda as outlined by the Director Mr Javed Asari, Secretariat Member of APRCFSKP, outlined to the meeting the need to make the changes as outlined in the agenda for the purpose of consolidating the name change and enhancing its future activities in relation to developing friendly relations amongst the people of the Asia Pacific Region and strengthening solidarity with the Korean people as they continue the struggle in building and consolidating a powerful and prosperous state and safeguarding peace on the Korean peninsula.

The Director expressed appreciation to Mr Javed Ansari for his supportive remarks and called upon the meeting to consider the propose changes to the Constitution.

Draft Constitution
The draft constitution as outlined restructured the Executive Bureau to have more centralised and decisive power of the organisation and empowered more executive power to the Secretariat and creating a new position of Executive Secretary as the first deputy of the Director of the Secretariat. In addition more persons from the media in the region have been appointed to the Public Information Bureau.

APRCFSKP Future Campaigns
The Director then called upon Peter Wilson newly elected secretary to speak and present proposals for future APRCFSK campaigns. Mr Wilson said that APRCFSKP is important on three fronts.

Domestically it is important that people within the DPRK know that APRCFSKP members in countries all around the Asia/Pacific region are empathetic, supportive and in solidarity with them. Secondly it is important that we all in our home countries publicise the plight of the Korean people and educate both the general public and our governments about the injustice that has been inflicted upon the people of the DPRK. Thirdly on the international front APRCFSKP has the challenge of several campaigns.

The first is lobbying for withdrawal of authority for the USA use of the United Nations flag and logo in Korea. Secondly, with the decline of the USA not only is China on the rise, but so are organisations representing the global South, namely the Group of 77 (which has 134 members) and the Non Aligned Movement (NAM) which has 120 member. In the coming future APRCFSKP will lobby these institutions to advocate in world forums for the independence and sovereignty of an independent sanctions-free DPRK.

At the conclusion of his remarks the Director thanked Mr Wilson for his valuable contribution.

APRCFSKP Logo
The Director called upon Mr Teguh Santosa Director of the PIB to display the drafts of the new Logos to be consider for adoption for the new regional Committee. Following the display of the Logos and explanation of what they meant it was decided that the new Logo to be adopted was the one with the design of the Red Star which was supported by acclamation.

And that the PIB continue its work on developing a New Logo as soon as practical and to make the necessary changes to the domain address of website and Facebook page and other social media accounts.

In presenting the Action Plan to the meeting the Director asked Mr Javed Ansari to read the Action Plan and explain its purpose. Following the presentation of the Acton Plan by Mr Javed Ansari the Director expressed the view that the Action Plan reflects the orientation of the future activities of the Regional Committee in supporting the struggle of the Korean people for peace, independence and their sovereign right as they continue to build a powerful Socialist State.

Fully supporting the Action Plan the meeting did so by strong acclamation.

He further commented that there was a need to strengthen the cooperative relations with Africa Regional Committee and Arab Committee for Friendship and Solidarity with the Korean People and other regional organisations in support of the Korean people.

For this purpose we need to think about prospective projects and activities that can be organised on the occasion of the Month of Anti-US Joint struggle from June 25th to July 27th. He then closed the meeting and wished everyone good health and to stay safe.
