Special Days in the Month of January
January 01:
We celebrate Happy New Year each year. This year our friendly Koran people and all of us are welcoming New Year Juche 113 (2024). I propose to send a message of Happy New Year Greetings to the Supreme Leader of the DPRK, people, and party His Excellency KIM JONG UN, President of the State Affairs of the DPRK, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea on behalf of APRCPRK.
January 08:
This is the birthday of His Excellency Marshal KIM JONG UN, the Supreme Leader of the Korean people. As far as we know, usually, the great leaders of the DPRK do not celebrate their birthdays; instead, they go to the workplace, and factories even on their birthdays and work together with the local workers to help them to achieve their goals before their scheduled date.
Our tradition is to send a Happy Birthday message to the Supreme Leader of the Korean people by sending our joint best wishes for good health, happiness, and long life. I hope our Secretariat will decide on this matter.
January 10:
On January 10, 2021 (Juche 110), Respected His Excellency KIM JONG UN was unanimously elected General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea. This is the historic day, the peace-loving progressive people on the earth have kept in their hearts in golden letters.
January 14:
On January 14, 1959, President KIM IL SUNG founded “Workers-Peasant Red Guards”- a self-defense volunteer militia force. It inherited the tradition of the anti-Japanese armed struggle. It is an embodiment of the idea of the all-people in-depth defense system.
The working people of the DPRK are very aware that they should defend their Republic, the cradle of happiness of Juche paradise with arms in their hands. Their militant slogan is – "Rifle in one hand and hammer or sickle in another hand!”
January 22:
Lunar New Year’s Day.
January 23:
January 23, 1968, was a great memorable Day when the heroic Korean People’s Army captured the US armed spy ship USS “Pueblo”. The Navy of the KPA 56 years ago gave a great blow to the US aggressor' The ship had remained in Wonsan for many years and then in 1998 was taken to the River, Taedong in Pyongyang and moored at the site where the USS General Sherman was sunk by Korean patriots led by Comrade KIM UNG U, the grandfather of the great revolutionary leader President KIM IL SUNG.
In 2013, it was moved to the reconstructed and expanded Fatherland Liberation War Museum on River Potong.
